Bass Guitar & Vocals
Ray ‘RayB’ Feldman – Bass / Backing Vocals for The Southern Steel Band was a member of ‘Sundown’, a Southern Rock band formed in the 1980’s featuring Dave Sorber and Billy Hipple, also current members of Southern Steel. “I vividly remember the scorching hot days and nights of endless practice with Sundown” in the First Calvary Church in Keyport, NJ. We’ve been Brothers forever, and our reunion in November, 2011 is going to turn some heads because we all know each others’ next step.” He attributes his fretboard speed and endurance to being left-handed while playing a righty bass, which allows his stronger left hand to grab onto the neck with more force. Along with rolling out signature bass lines in the vein of Leon Wilkeson from Lynyrd Skynyrd, Ray lends a hand by taking on tenor backing vocals for Southern Steel. Ray’s other talents include playing classical guitar, lead guitar and keyboards, but he still prefers playing bass because it’s “the glue that connects the drummer with the Guitar Army, and that’s where the power is”. Ray played Lead Guitar for Boothill Express from 2005-2007 with former Southern Steel bass player and friend Stan Romanowski, whom he gives credit for sharing some valuable skills. “Stan is going to be a hard act to follow, but I’ll do my best.” Ray plays Spector, Ibanez and Fender bass guitars through Ampeg & Galien Kruger amplifiers into Hartke cabinets.
